Florida Senate Passes Bill for Animal Abuser RegistryIn a move that would strengthen animal welfare protections in Florida, the state has passed a bill to create a registry of animal abusers. The bill comes on the heels of the passage of Dexter’s Law, which is named after a shelter dog who passed away after adoption due to the adopter’s negligence. Thanks to the new law, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement created a statewide, publicly searchable registry which lists individuals who have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to animal cruelty offenses in the past. German Startup Develops Meat Substitute from Spent MaltAlcohol consumption in Germany has been on the decline for the last few decades, with numerous breweries shutting down every year. This reportedly stems from younger generations being more health-conscious and adopting more responsible drinking habits. To keep up with these changing consumption habits, breweries are being forced to adapt and find alternative business models. One such place, Störtebeker Brewery, is funding a startup called “Eat Beer.” The startup wants to turn leftover malt from brewing into vegan meat substitutes. The process involves mixing the spent grain with oyster mushrooms to produce the base for vegan nuggets and sausages. Approval from the European Union is still pending, but if approved could launch an exciting new vegan food in the market! What do you think about these good animal news and world animal news stories?
