Wicked Home & Fragrances
AVOID IT: Gain’s Scent of Oz Collection The floral and woody scents in this collection would make your clothes smell amazing, but they unfortunately don’t make animals feel amazing. Gain is owned by Procter & Gamble, which tests on animals. AVOID IT: Swiffer Sweep & Mop Deluxe, Wicked Limited Edition Pink While this Swiffer mop bundle is just a few dollars more than the regular one and a fun pink color, the parent company, Procter & Gamble, is not cruelty-free. Some of the ingredients in the cleaning solution may be derived from and tested on animals. Wicked Food & Beverages
The proverbial sprinkles on top is that at the end of 2024, Starbucks removed the plant-based milk surcharge in all US and Canada stores. The decision came about due to customer demand, advocacy from various groups, and new leadership.
AVOID IT: Takis Spellbindingly Sweet Unfortunately, the Spellbinding Sweet Sugar & Cinnamon flavor of Takis isn’t vegan because it contains skimmed milk powder. While we assume it tastes like churros, there are similar vegan alternatives that you can find or make at home. AVOID IT: General Mills Berry and Caramel Apple Flavored Cereals These corn puff cereal variants look safe to eat from the outside, but the source of Vitamin D may be animal-based. The two flavors are Elphaba Caramel Apple and Glinda Good Berry. We reached out to General Mills to inquire about the source of the Vitamin D in this product. In an email response, the company said, “The answer depends on the ingredients, which you can find on the package's ingredient label. If the product contains Vitamin D3, then it is not vegan or vegetarian. We source our Vitamin D3 from Lanolin, which is the natural oil found in sheep's wool.” AVOID IT: Compartés Wicked: For Good Collection While Compartés does have vegan chocolates, their Wicked: For Good collection unfortunately does not have any vegan options. Many of the bars contain dairy in the form of whole milk, dry skim milk, butter, and cream. Wicked Cosmetics & Skincare
AVOID IT: Olay x Wicked Olay’s limited edition serum body wash comes in two scents. Elphaba’s Edition has notes of cashmere, woods, and lime, and Glinda’s Edition has notes of raspberry and bubbles. Unfortunately, the brand complies with government-mandated animal testing in certain countries like China. This means they test on animals if a government legally requires them to test their products to sell in the country, making the company as a whole not cruelty-free. Wicked Lifestyle
AVOID IT: Cambridge Satchel x Wicked: For Good Cambridge Satchel has some classy bag, pouch, notebook, and charm designs, but all of them contain leather. Every year, it is estimated that in addition to the more than 80 billion land animals slaughtered every year for meat, over 1 billion are killed for their skins alone. The most common item made from animal skins happens to be leather. Animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, and others are confined in crowded spaces, painfully branded, castrated, and mutilated without pain relief. They are transported in cramped vehicles and deprived of food and water. Ultimately, they are slaughtered, and many are skinned while still alive. Leather uses many toxic chemicals in the tanning process, which pollute water sources, air, and soil. Within the factories themselves, workers suffer from respiratory illnesses, skin conditions, and have higher risks of cancer. AVOID IT: Naadam x Wicked Naadam dropped a Wicked collaboration sweater line with simple yet stylish designs. There’s just one catch - the sweaters are all made of cashmere. Cashmere comes from the undercoat of certain breeds of goat. Needless to say, Doctor Dillamond would be particularly horrified to learn of this collab. The process of harvesting the wool involves severe cruelty to the goats, including beating and stomping to force compliance and cuts from fast-paced shearing. A few years ago, Naadam was forced to remove any ‘cruelty-free’ claims from their website after PETA reached out to them to educate them about the abuse suffered by the goats. AVOID IT: Vera Bradley Wicked Collection Vera Bradley launched two bewitching Wicked lines consisting of throw blankets, backpacks, duffel bags, pillows, totes, pajama sets, pens, trays, slippers, coasters, and more. This collection looks safe at first as the bags, scarves, and some other items can easily be mistaken as being cruelty-free. In an email, Vera Bradley said, “While we label products with leather components, we apologize but we do not have any information regarding the dyes or glues used.” As you can see, there are numerous vegan and cruelty-free Wicked movie collabs out there!
