To those who fight for animal rights, Dobby's story is one of inspiration
Twenty years ago today, the Wizarding World saw some of the worst events unfold as good fought against evil. In that chaos many heroes were born, but many others were lost—and on the anniversary of this battle, J.K. Rowling apologizes for the death of one of these heroes.
This year is special for us at the Protego Foundation because J.K. Rowling has apologized for the death of Dobby, the free-elf.
To animal rights activists everywhere, Dobby’s story is a source of hope, of motivation. Fans everywhere applaud Harry for liberating Dobby from his imprisonment, and for realizing that Dobby is a feeling, loving, and caring being worthy of the respect he was not being given by his enslavers. For fans who have been inspired by Jo’s writing, you can free the magical creatures in our own muggle world. By advocating for the rights of animals, you are carrying on the work of so many fantastic heroes from the Wizarding World including Hermione, Hagrid, Luna, Newt, and so many more.
You don't need a wand to change the world for animals, all you need is the magic in yourself.
