Usually, con-goers enjoy the popular, annual Harry Potter Fandom panel, but Potterheads had one great panel to look forward to seeing virtually this year: Harry Potter and Black Panther: Using Pop Culture to Become Superheroes IRL But what about Artist Alley? What about the hundreds of independent artists sharing their geeky fandom creations with convention-goers? Well, don’t get your wand in a knot. The Potterhead art community has also taken to the muggle web to sell their wizarding world wares! Here’s some of our favorite magical merch from SDCC 2020’s independent artists: 1. Hagrid and Friends Print Home to Centaur camps, Thestral herds, and a fearsome Acromantula colony, The Forbidden Forest is a haven for magical creatures and beings. Harry Potter enters the mysterious forest no less than eight times throughout the series, often with Hagrid by his side. This print created by Cathleen Abalos features Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Hagrid in the Forbidden Forest on a snowy day. Sold in both 8x10 and 11x17 inch sizes, this cute and cozy print will be right at home in any room. 2. Deathly Hallows Print Skater Skirt The Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone, the Cloak of Invisibility. The iconic Deathly Hallows symbol is the main event of this handmade skater skirt created by Etsy seamstress SkirtyBirt. Available in sizes XXS to XXL you could get your witchy fashion on and become Master of Death — win-win, no?! 3. The Prisoner of Azkaban Print “Three turns should do it, Miss Granger.” This Prisoner of Azkaban inspired print from artist Scott W. Smith of Skahfee Studios is made entirely from words! Featuring one of the most important items to the plot, Hermione’s Time-Turner, this print comes in three sizes: 11x17, 24x36, and 27x40 inches. 4. Back To Hogwarts Print With the arrival of September comes the return to Hogwarts! This quirky print from Hediun on Etsy features the hustle and bustle of Platform 9 ¾ at King’s Cross Station. At 8 ½ x 11 inches, this energetic print could bring some magic to even the smallest spaces, even cupboards under the stairs! 5. Harry Potter Hologram Print This adorable, postcard-sized print features Harry Potter in his Gryffindor robes with his sweet and sassy snowy owl companion, Hedwig, perched on his head. Designed by artist Nan Hockin, this super-shimmery holographic print makes a great pocket-sized gift for your Potterish friends or a small self-indulgence to treat yourself to! 6. Lightning Bolt Earrings “Fascinating! Ingenious really, how many ways Muggles have found of getting along without magic.” Arthur Weasley’s love for muggle artifacts and inventions is one of his most defining (and hilarious) features. Sure, he prefers collecting spark plugs and batteries, but we think he’d be absolutely chuffed by these laser-cut lightning bolt earrings from Unpossible Cuts. With choices of wood or acrylic material, these earrings are 1” tall and .25” wide. 7. Harry Potter Printed Face Masks One of the best ways to combat covid and take precautionary action is to mask up! That also means that we have more opportunities to rock some fierce Potterhead fashion wherever we go! These washable, cloth face masks from SkirtyBirt on Etsy come in nearly as many varieties as Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans! Prints include Hedwig, Luna Lovegood, The Marauders Map, the Golden Snitch, Dark Wizard Wanted Posters, The Dark Mark, Stained Glass Hogwarts House Windows, and the Deathly Hallows symbol on black cloth and white cloth. 8. Hagrid and The Animal Friends We at Protego love Rubeus Hagrid! We even dedicated an episode of our podcast, The Protegocast, to the kind-hearted Keeper of Keys. This charming 8x10 or 11x17 inch print from Cathleen Abalos features Hagrid in his happy place — with his creature friends! Buckbeak the Hippogriff, Hedwig, and baby Norberta are all included in this whimsical print. 9. Harry Potter Heroes Print Dumbledore famously said, “Words are, in my not so humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic.” This print from Skahfee Studios fashions quotes from the most heroic characters in the wizarding world into the lightning bolt shape of Harry’s scar. In sizes 11x17, 24x36, and 27x40 inches, this Potteriffic print could brighten up any room. 10. Niffler Print If you’ve ever envied Newt Scamander and his mischievous Niffler, now’s your chance to adopt one of your own! These scrappy, jewelry-loving creatures are known for their cuteness and their penchant for wreaking havoc in pursuit of all things bling. Cathleen Abalos’s Niffler, however, is confined to a digital print, so you don’t have to worry about your Niffler tearing through your home like a furry little tornado!
