Defend the Dire WolvesIn previous years, Con of Thrones, a fan event celebrating George R. R. Martin’s fantasy world of Game of Thrones, has partnered with a photo booth exhibitor that uses wolf dogs, along with birds such as crows and owls, as “props” for photos so that people can pose with them.
We are urging the festival’s organizers, Mischief Management, to exclude any exhibitor who uses live animals, such as wolf dogs, as “props” for photos during their 2023 event and beyond. Animals can experience stress when they are forced to interact with strangers in an unfamiliar, noisy environment that can overstimulate them. Both dogs and birds are very sensitive to noise and it can overwhelm them. Animals have individual needs and desires, and when they are exploited for money in these photo ops, their needs are not being met. Please sign our Action Alert to let Mischief Management know that you don't want to see any live animals being exploited at their events. |
Release the ReinsAs long as horses are forced to pull carriages on busy city streets, violent crashes and horse deaths will keep happening over and over again. Fast-moving cars and bikes, loud environments, and unpredictable passersby have the ability to terrify horses – endangering themselves, carriage drivers, and everyone else around them.
We are urging cities around the world to shift to abuse-free, electric-powered carriage alternatives that ensure safer environments for everyone. In the wizarding world, Thestrals are skeletal, winged equines who can only be seen by those who have seen death. Like horses, Thestrals are sensitive and often misunderstood. And also like horses, Thestrals are used to pull carriages. When there are so many other forms of transportation - from brooms and boats to trains and taxis - why should living beings be made to pull heavy equipment and humans from place to place? Help us make history by pledging to never participate in horse-drawn carriage rides. |

Accio Vegan ButterbeerSince launching the original Accio Vegan Butterbeer campaign, we've seen so much amazing progress around the world. The Universal Studios theme parks in Orlando, Hollywood, and Osaka now serve an entirely vegan version of Butterbeer, the Warner Bros. Studio Tours in London and Tokyo serve vegan Butterbeer as the default, and there is a bottled version of Butterbeer that contains no animal products sold at Harry Potter Shop locations around the globe!
Now, we are urging Universal Parks and Resorts to offer the fully vegan version of Butterbeer at Universal Beijing Resort. We are also urging Warner Bros. to introduce the vegan topping at the Harry Potter shops in New York and Chicago. People with dairy allergies and those who choose to abstain from dairy due to animal welfare concerns deserve to experience everything that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter has to offer, including the most popular themed drink offering. Please sign our Action Alert to get fully vegan Butterbeer on the menu at ALL wizarding world experiences worldwide. |
PAST CAMPAIGNS
Wizards for Environmental ProtectionThis campaign is focused on protecting the environment, and in turn, all the creatures who inhabit our world. How we treat our planet directly impacts all life, from the smallest Pygmy Puff to the largest dragon.
Our goal is to encourage all witches, wizards, magical people, and Muggles to show love to the planet and learn about the different ways that we can all help. In 2021, our supporters participated in our interactive campaign, Wizards for Environmental Protection. |
PROTECT THE PUFFSEvery autumn, over 70,000 badgers are killed in the needlessly cruel U.K. badger cull. Instead of doing away with the inhumane annual badger cull as promised, the UK government has expanded the hunting grounds to eleven new regions in 2020.
The Protego Foundation’s campaign, “Protect the Puffs,” is our demand to the U.K. Parliament to end the badger massacre once and for all and to not bring it back in 2021. Supporters took the pledge to #ProtectThePuffs and help badgers for our Protect the Puffs campaign in 2020. |
Find DougalWhen Newt Scamander came to New York, he had to find and rescue the magical creatures who escaped from his suitcase-sanctuary before they were hurt by humans—both magical and non-magical. One of the beasts Newt had to find was his ape-like Demiguise companion, Dougal. The Protego Foundation’s “Find Dougal” campaign highlights the plight that chimpanzees face at the hands of humans. The Protego Foundation is working to educate the wizarding world fandom on how they can use Newt’s rescue of Dougal to help chimpanzees in our world. Through a partnership with Accio! Subscription Box and Save the Chimps, a sanctuary in Florida that provides lifetime care to chimpanzees from research laboratories, the entertainment industry, and the pet trade, Protego is looking to support the rescue of chimps in the US.
Supporters took the pledge to #FindDougal and protect chimps for our Find Dougal campaign in 2018. |
Accio Vegan ButterbeerUnfortunately for all of us Wizarding World fans who want to avoid animal exploitation and dairy products, the Butterbeer at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter parks in Orlando, Hollywood, and Osaka contains milk from cows in the whipped topping and in the soda base of the hot version. Much like how the members of Dumbledore’s Army band together to defy Umbridge, we fans of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts are banding together to make a simple request to Universal Studio's Wizarding World of Harry Potter: make the Butterbeer vegan and dairy-free!
In 2018, over 7,500 people signed our petition for #VeganButterbeer. |
Erumpent RescueAs first seen in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them film, Erumpents are large yet gentle beasts with a long, rope-like tail, thick, grey skin, and a sharp horn on their nose. Does this remind you of an animal in the Muggle world? It should, because Erumpents are frequently mistaken for rhinoceroses from afar, and like rhinos, they are hunted for their horns.
In 2017, we launched an Erumpent Rescue campaign to help save rhinos. |
Adopt A Pygmy PuffWhat would happen if Knockturn Alley breeders started breeding their own Pygmy Puffs for profit so quickly that it created a Pygmy Puff overpopulation crisis in the wizarding world? Every year, 6-8 million cats and dogs enter U.S. shelters and only about 3-4 million of them find good homes. We can help end the overpopulation of cats, dogs, and Pygmy Puffs.
We launched our first campaign, Adopt a Pygmy Puff, in 2015. |
