Adopt a magical creature for Back to Hogwarts Day!

Just in time to head back to Hogwarts, we at The Protego Foundation are so excited to share some big news with all you witches, wizards, and magical people. Especially those of you who are big-time creature and animal lovers! (Let’s be real—that’s probably all of you!) ​

As of September 1st, we’re launching a new campaign: you can “adopt” your own Hogwarts-approved companion animal like a cat, rat, or owl. Or for you bold, aspiring Magizoologists out there, some of the most majestic creatures in the Wizarding World are also up for “adoption”: a phoenix, unicorn, or dragon!

Here’s how it works.

​As much as we’d love to put you in contact with real cats, rats, and owls who need new homes, much like with the magical creatures, your adoption is a symbolic one! ​

Every month you’ll contribute some muggle money to support your new furry (or feathery or scaly) friend—so be sure to go to Gringott’s and exchange your galleons, sickles, and knuts! 

Adoption fees start at as low as $3 a month and go towards covering the “costs of spaying/neutering, feeding, and providing medical care and supplies to your new animal companion.”

​Here’s how the adoption fees break down:

Rat adoption: $3
Cat adoption: $5
Owl adoption: $7
Unicorn adoption: $10
Dragon adoption: $20
Phoenix adoption: $25

​What’s Next? 

​All adoptions come with a printable adoption certificate sent to your muggle email and monthly updates including fun facts, your animal companion or creature’s personal story, and how you can help animals in the muggle world. 

For the animal companions (cat, rat, and owl), you’ll also get a printable illustration of your new friend and a printable six-month and one-year anniversary adoption certificate.

​The magic creature adoptions work a little bit differently. Instead of just printables, we’ll physically mail you a print of your adopted dragon, phoenix, or unicorn, and the six-month and one-year anniversary adoption certificates. You’ll also receive a handmade plush that resembles the magical creature you adopted when you hit the one-year mark!

You can find a full list of adoptable animal companions and magical creatures right here on The Protego Foundation’s website. Your donations will be sent to us through a secure Donorbox plugin that keeps your information private and safe.

​Meet one of our adoptable cats, Rowan! Here’s his story:

Rowan has striking ginger and cinnamon-brown fur and a vibrant personality to match! When a concerned neighbor phoned in a request to check out the filthy and dangerous conditions of a nearby house, Rowan and over a dozen other cats were found inside. All of the cats in the dilapidated house in Spinners End, Cokeworth, were emaciated, infested with fleas, and extremely skittish. Rowan’s bold, trailblazing attitude quickly set him apart from the other cats. He’s a Gryffindor, through and through! Rowan, like the tree he’s named after, has become a protector for his feline friends and even for the rescued owls in his foster home! Rowan loves chin scratches and playing with his jingle ball wand toy.
