On this day, May 30th, 24 years ago, Harry Potter used his own sock to free another being from a life of inhumane servitude. That being was Dobby, the house-elf, and he went on to become one the bravest creatures in the entire Harry Potter series. Without Dobby, Harry would never have been able to survive the second task in the Triwizard Tournament. Without Dobby, Luna Lovegood, Mr. Olivander, Griphook, Ron, Harry, and Hermione would not have been able to escape from Malfoy Manor. Dobby, who was treated like vermin just because of his species, went on to save so many--just because he was shown a little compassion. In honor of such a brave and strong creature, we are announcing that the Fwooper Foundation is now going to be the Fantastic Beasts Foundation! When Kathryn and I first had the idea of starting an animal rights group for Harry Potter fans, we instantly fell in love with the idea of paying homage to a magical creature whose voice is, literally, silenced: the Fwooper. Naming an organization after a bird who is only mentioned one time in the actual Harry Potter books was a risk we were willing to take because of how much we loved the idea of the Fwooper being our mascot. Since we launched in January of 2015, we have been able to not only amplify the story of the Fwooper, we have also been able to open up the conversation about animal mistreatment both in the Wizarding World and in the muggle world. Under the Fwooper Foundation name we were able to feature our campaigns on the biggest Harry Potter news sites like MuggleNet, GeekyNews, FantasticBeastsMovies.com, and more. Our annual Adopt A Pygmy Puff campaign has gathered more than 600 pledges from Harry Potter fans to only adopt animals from shelters, and not buy them from pet stores or breeders. Now as we move into a new era of J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World, so are we moving into a new era of the magical creature rights movement. As the only Harry Potter organization on the front line of the animal rights movement, we are tapping into the fan enthusiasm for the new Fantastic Beasts series and will continue helping animals in our world by using the magic of the Wizarding World. You can expect more campaigns focused on the Fantastic Beasts series, but also a couple campaigns with nods to the Harry Potter series. Join the Fantastic Beasts Foundation as a member, and you will be able to complete actions in exchange for free Fantastic Beasts Foundation stuff like buttons, stickers, mugs, tees, and more!
Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for our first campaign under the Fantastic Beasts Foundation name coming in Summer 2017. As always, thank you for your support, and thank you for all that you will be doing alongside us to help the fantastic beasts in our world!
