Vegan Pumpkin Juice Recipe

10/21/2021

While pumpkin-themed food and drink features all year round in the wizarding world, in the Muggle world it is synonymous with autumn - and more specifically, October.

This time of year, Hagrid’s pumpkin patch is bursting with garden-shed-sized pumpkins ripe for the picking (or in this case, juicing)! This drink is an iconic element of the Halloween feast at Hogwarts every year.

Our pumpkin juice recipe also has an autumnal-worthy twist! We devised our very own plant-powered version, including special notes from The HPP (Half-Plant Prince), which will give your drink maximum flavor!

Our recipe differentiates from many others out there in that we have added plant milk. We found that this makes it more creamy and comforting for autumn. So without further ado, let’s get brewing!

Potion Ingredients

  • 1 cup apple juice

  • ½  cup orange juice

  • ½ cup plant milk (we recommend soy or almond)

  • ½ cup water

  • ½ cup pumpkin puree

  • 1 tbsp maple syrup

  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract (or 1 vanilla stick)

  • 1tsp ground cinnamon (or 1 cinnamon stick) - optional

  • 1tsp ground ginger (or 2 inch piece of ginger) - optional

Brewing Instructions

1. Add the apple juice, orange juice, maple syrup, spices, and vanilla extract to a small cauldron or pot. Bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer for 10 minutes. Shut off heat and set aside to cool.

Notes from the HPP: Use whole cinnamon sticks, vanilla bean pods, and fresh ginger for maximum flavor!

2. Add the pumpkin puree, plant milk, and water to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.

Notes from the HPP: Scrape the sides of the processor with a rubber spatula or spoon to ensure all the ingredients are combined.

3. Strain your juice mixture from the pot and add to the blender with the plant milk. Blend the two together until smooth.

Notes from the HPP: Once combined, put the blended mixture through a strainer again to remove any excess pulp from the pumpkin puree.

4. Chill for 30 minutes, and then your pumpkin juice will be ready to serve! For colder months, we recommend reheating it in a pan and serving it hot for an autumnal “hug in a mug”!

Notes from the HPP: For an extra dash of flavor and style, serve the pumpkin juice in a teapot with apple slices and cinnamon sticks.

You can watch our recipe video to see the process, and let us know if you try this recipe!
